Several weeks ago our Facebook fans were invited to tell us what The Claremont meant to them during their time at Cal Berkeley to enter for a chance to win a fabulous stay at The Claremont Hotel, Club & Spa AND two tickets to a Cal Golden Bears football game.  The response was overwhelming with so many incredible recolections shared!

The Claremont has a very special place in my heart because its the last place I met with my college mentor-- a memory that will live with me forever. As an undergrad, I worked through out my years at Cal with the California Alumni Association. I had the best job a student could ask for, planning and working at alumni events and meeting incredible alums that would recount their college stories while at Cal. But the most meaningful part of this job was my supervisor, Lynne, a Cal alum who dedicated her career to working with students and alumni. More than my boss, she walked me through the college process, helped me when finals where tough, or when I simply needed a hug. As the first in my family to go to college and living at Berkeley hundred of miles from my own family, she made me feel at home. I can attribute my success at Cal and now as an attorney to her support. After I graduated, and contemplated law school I met Lynne at the Claremont for dinner and drinks, we shared stories, and I told her about my plans for law school, proudly announcing I would start at Boalt the next year. It was one of those moments where you chat so long that before you know it, you are the last two people seated at the restaurant. A few months later, Lynne passed unexpectedly and she never got to see me through law school, though I know her advice and support got me there. For me, that evening at the Claremont reminds me of her, and every time I see the hotel from the corner of my eye while driving in the Bay, I smile.
